Taxation Statistics – June Quarter 2025

The Taxation Statistics series is a quarterly publication presenting Value Added Tax (VAT) data for the Cook Islands. The series examines VAT collected on sales of goods and services and income, in relation to purchases of goods and services across all industries. These statistics provide an indicator of economic activity and consumption patterns within the economy.

Key Facts – June Quarter 2025

  • The June quarter 2025 saw a Gross Turnover of $312.6 million across all industries, up 11.1 per cent from $281.5 million in the March quarter 2025. Compared with the same quarter last year ($293.9 million), turnover rose 6.4 per cent, reflecting continued year-on-year growth.
  • Total Value Added Tax (VAT) collected on Sales and Income reached $37.5 million, up 13.7 per cent from March 2025 ($32.9 million). and 7.2 per cent higher than June 2024, reflecting sustained economic activity.
  • Service industries grew 11.4 per cent, from $253.4 million to $282.2 million in turnover, driven by notable increases in accommodation, real estate, and financial services. Goods-producing industries also increased by 8.7 per cent largely supported by higher construction activities.
  • The graph below illustrates the quarterly trend in Gross Turnover for the Cook Islands from 2022 to 2025. Rarotonga continues to account for the bulk of economic activity and VAT collections, while Te Pa Enua shows greater variability reflecting its smaller economic base.
