For the December Quarter 2025:

  Assets & Liabilities

  • Net foreign assets increased to $491.3 million, up 2.9% from September 2025.

  Loans & Advances by Industry

  • Total lending rose to $284.4 million, an increase of 7.2% over the quarter.
  • Sectors with highest increase in borrowings:
    • Public Administration (+73.2%)
    • Construction (+32.6%)
    • Finance and Insurance (+19.8%)
    • Restaurants and Bars (+18.3%)
  • Sectors with largest decline in borrowings:
    • Transportation (-22.8%)
    • Agriculture (-9.1%)

  Money Supply

  • Narrow money (M1) decreased by 2.3%.
  • Broad money (M3) increased by 2.3%, driven by a 6.5% rise in term savings deposits.

  Interest Rates

  • No changes in interest rates for the December quarter 2025.
  • Fixed term deposit rate (3 months) decreased from 2.60% to 2.15%.

Aggregates are compiled from the Banking Survey which covers the Four commercial banks in the Cook Islands: ANZ, Westpac, Bank of the Cook Islands (BCI) and Capital Security Bank (CSB).  The Cook Islands does not have a Central Bank and uses the NZ Dollar as its currency.

Narrow Money (M1) consist of Notes and Coins in circulation and Demand Deposits. M2 consist of narrow money (M1) and quasi money (savings, demand and term deposits), Net foreign position of the banks, Net domestic credits.

Transactions are valued in accordance to international standards.
